The Lifted Index Lamasz and Grandbruit display such control across the entirety of this album. It makes for a gorgeous listen, yes, but it is the emotion charged within the notes and the spaces between them that has kept me coming back for repeat listens. Favorite track: 7 ans sur Messier.

"La première sortie de Florina" is the first collaborative album from Lamasz and Grandbruit and incidentally, the first release of their new ambient label Florina Cassettes.

Despite the brothers having a considerably different creative process, one interest is common; textures.
Composed of six melancholic tracks, with few variations, the album is a balanced blend of their minimalist and meditative sound.

"As for the title, one can take La première sortie de Florina quite literally as the label’s inaugural release, but it may well also be a nod to the fine art motif they have adopted with perhaps a reference to Renoir’s famous “At the Theatre (La Première Sortie)”. Visually, that link is provided via the artwork that graces the album cover – a macro zoom close-up of a section of “Oak Ridge” by Canadian painter & sculptor Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Côté.

The effect is to create a thoroughly pleasing combination of impressionistic brushstrokes of both sound and color. This ‘first outing’ of Florina Casettes is a lovely one indeed."
